Journey of Discovery into Your Own Imagination
After exploring different directions, the artist duo GriSart Collective decided to take a completely new, never-before-chosen path. The collective found in the planet Azardan an alternative reality that comes to life through imagery, imagination, and mysterious symbolism. GriSart's colorful paintings bring expression and emotion to life, creating a profound and unique experience, a journey of discovery into an imaginary reality where emotion, creativity, and mystery merge. As a viewer, you sense that beneath the appealing richness of colors lies something deeper.
GriSart’s works invite long periods of observation and contemplation. Gradually, every detail, layer, and symbol can reveal a new meaning.
Azardan: An Imaginary World
Far away, in the shadows of the human mind and the deep desires of the heart, Azardan emerged – an imaginary planet where everyone can walk their own path and create a personal world. Of the people who once inhabited this planet, only a mysterious script remains, unreadable, intriguing, a source of mystery and curiosity.
Through this secret script, the artist duo GriSart discovered that Azardan is nothing more than a reflection of human emotions and desires. What initially seemed like a utopian world, a place more beautiful and better than Earth, turns out to have darker sides. Just like reality. Depending on the artists' moods, Azardan can shift from a peaceful world to a place full of conflict and mystery.
A Secret Script as a Bridge
The secret Azardan script was created long ago during a dull math lesson, later used to express emotions, and now serves as a central element in GriSart's work. The script is not meant to be read. The magic lies precisely in its unknown and inscrutable nature. The secret script acts as a bridge between the imaginary world of Azardan and the imagination of the viewer. The artist collective seeks to create a universe where the viewer is actively involved: GriSart adds the secret script to their paintings to invite viewers to create their own interpretations and stories, without needing to uncover the literal meaning. Just as in the imaginary world of Azardan, nothing is as it seems; the true meaning may never be fully revealed – and that is exactly what makes the journey worthwhile. The desire for knowledge that is never fully unlocked, plays an important role in GriSart's work.
Hand in Hand from Start To Finish
GriSart draws inspiration for each painting from text – poems, songs, prose... When you acquire a piece by the duo, you also receive the text that was written into the painting. If you order a new piece from GriSart, your favorite poems or songs will be carefully translated into the secret script and incorporated into the painting.
What makes the artist duo’s method unique is that each painting passes through both artists' hands. They complement each other, adding to the whole. One cannot exist without the other; without collaboration, GriSart cannot create anything. Yet, the respective roles of the collective members are not fixed; both contribute to the inspiration, colors, script, details, and finishing.
Techniques and Materials
The creation process of these paintings is an adventure in itself, combining classical techniques with innovative methods. The base consists of acrylic paint, but the duo primarily uses paints they make themselves from pigments – and in small quantities, as they dry very quickly and become unusable. Since the artists mix their paints organically, it is impossible to create the exact same color twice.
With these materials, GriSart carefully applies multiple layers to create depth and 3D effects. The pigments used play with light and the angle from which the artwork is viewed. The atmosphere of a painting constantly changes. Sometimes the GriSart incorporates other materials such as plaster, gold leaf, jewelry, stones, buttons, keys, and even dried seeds to enhance the 3D effect. It can take up to four weeks for all the layers to fully cure and for both artists to be satisfied with the final result. Time and patience are essential components of how the story of Azardan is told.
GriSart’s paintings extend beyond the edges of the canvas. As a result, they do not require a frame. This also reinforces the sense that each painting is a world in itself, full of hidden layers and meanings that are slowly revealed – or remain concealed.
